5 Secrets Habits Successful Real Estate Agents Practice
The real estate industry has an entire ecosystem of its own. It includes appraisers, property managers, home inspectors, buyers, sellers, loan officers, and even government agencies but at the heart of the system is made of realtors and real estate agents.
A successful real estate agent is someone who can coordinate the different players in the situation and make the transaction a reality. There are certain qualities that distinguish a successful real estate agent from others. Here are 5 qualities that we teach at our Wright real estate school and believe that every realtor must cultivate.
#1 Know What You Want
Success, like everything else, is relative. Everybody labels success differently, it's you who gives meaning to the term. For some, success might about attaining financial stability while for others it might mean helping other people.
As a realtor grows and becomes more and more acquainted with the business, what they deem as successful also changes. For a beginning real estate agent, success means closing the deal on their first property. Gradually, the numbers increase from one to many.
Over time you own investment properties and may even have a team working under you. The idea is to take time to calibrate and recalibrate your long-term and short-term goals and gauge where you stand in respect to them.
#2 Always be Open to Learning New Things
The real estate industry is by no means stagnant. It is constantly changing and evolving as the clientele shifts. What real estate schools used to teach 20 years ago is not applicable today. For any successful realtor, continual learning is imperative.
Experience is as good a teacher as any, but it is not enough. To keep at the top of your game you will need to invest time in proactive learning and research. Today the internet has made learning infinitesimally easier. Pull up a podcast, read a book, or watch video on YouTube and never shy away from learning new things.
#3 Pay Attention to Detail
It may seem like an inconspicuous detail, but it can make all the difference. From your client making a small remark, a birthday or anniversary date to a detailed knowledge of the neighborhood or a random tidbit about upcoming businesses in the locality, anything can mean a lot to your client.
Pay close attention when your client mentions their interests, use your listening skills to note down what you think could help in the future. With time you will start getting hang of what information to use and where.
#4 Don’t be Afraid to Fail
Failures really are the pillars of success. A successful real agent will fail, sometimes often. It is because they are continuously trying and refuse to quit. At the same time, you should remember to learn from your failures. Understand what works and what doesn’t. Identify your strengths and weaknesses, and use that information to your advantage.
When you stumble, suck it up, and start working again.
#5 Set Goals and Measure Your Growth
A habit that we suggest every future real estate mogul cultivate is to set goals along the way. Find some small goals and some big ones. Small goals include networking stats, emails and phone calls, community events, and the like. Small goals extend to a shorter period of time like a week or two. Bigger goals on the other hand involve months and years. As a big goal, you might want to recruit 5 agents under you or sell a certain number of houses.
Besting your goals also allows you to keep track of your growth.
